As a School Council, we help our school by coming together once a week to discuss issues about our education, think of ideas to raise money for school and also to support national and local charities.
At the start of the academic year, each class appoints one School Councillor to represent them.
Together we lead our classes in discussing next steps to raise money and things they would like to achieve as a school. Each Councillor has a folder to keep notes from the weekly meetings and there is a School Council board in each class for all children to write down their ideas to be taken to the next meeting.
One of the many things we do to support our school is to hold biscuit sales at school events such as Christmas productions and Easter celebrations. All proceeds go towards Christmas presents for each child in the school and new resources.
Another exciting opportunity we have is to raise money for charities such as Comic Relief, Sports Relief, Children in Need and Cancer Research. This is done through a variety of forums, including assemblies held by the School Councillors for the whole school to have an insight into what the charities are all about. We have also raised money by face painting, non uniform days and a car wash.
Mrs Burnell says, “Our whole school community would like to thank the School Councillors for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year. Without them and their on-going commitment, our school would not have the fun, experiences and insight into things that really matter in our local community and around the world”.
Recently, the School Councillors were given the responsibility of attending a Commonwealth Celebration at the temple in Oldbury. This was an important event for the temple and the community at which we were proud to be representing our school.
